Esteemed New Orleans Litigator Becomes Senior Officer of The Nation’s Largest Civil Defense Bar Organization Chicago, (October, 2007) – At the recent Annual Meeting of DRI – the Voice of the Defense Bar, Paul Lavelle, shareholder at the law firm Abbott, Simses & Kuchler, was elected Secretary Treasurer of the 22,000-member organization. Lavelle practices and has extensive trial experience in the areas of commercial litigation, products liability, construction, environmental law, insurance and general civil litigation. He is also responsible for case management, as national coordinating counsel, for a commercial litigation docket. Lavelle is licensed to practice in all Louisiana State and Federal Courts. He received his B.S. from the University of Scranton and his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law. “Paul has been a great asset to our organization, both at the state and national level,” said John Kouris, Executive Director of DRI. “His tireless commitment to the organization, and extensive involvement in our substantive law committees, makes him an ideal candidate to assume the role of Secretary Treasurer for DRI.” Lavelle has been a long time member of DRI’s Product Liability Committee, and has been actively involved in its specialized litigation groups on construction equipment, consumer products, juvenile products and toxic torts. He is also the past chair of DRI’s Technology Committee and its Electronic Discovery Task Force. In these capacities, he has conducted lectures and continuing legal education seminars on the topics of product liability, technology, insurance coverage and electronic discovery. “As a long time member of DRI, I am deeply honored to be named as the Secretary Treasurer,” said Lavelle. “I have had the opportunity to reap the benefits this organization provides through top notch legal education and the forum it provides for civil defense attorneys.
