Abbott, Simses & Kuchler is saddened to announce the passing of shareholder, R. Bruce Evanick.  On December 4, 2007, Bruce died of an apparent massive heart attack.

We remember fondly the first day we met Bruce Evanick.  He came to us from Pennsylvania and was looking for a job.  He was not going to return to his work as a public defender and, on his first trip to New Orleans, was intrigued and captivated by the uniqueness of the city.  We quickly could see that although his legal background was strictly in criminal law, he had a keen intellect and, frankly, was unquestionably a genius.

We offered Bruce a job and, although a veteran lawyer, given his criminal defense background, he approached his work as a youthful, first-day attorney.  Soon Bruce’s unique personality permeated our growing Firm.  Everyone quickly knew him.  Many were amazed by his ability to quickly absorb the detailed, complicated science involved in so much of our work.  The more people in the firm worked with him, the more they liked him.  That fondness continued to grow throughout the Firm and certainly was at its zenith at the time of his unfortunate death.  So many of the people at our firm grew to literally love Bruce.  He will be missed more as a person by us than as an attorney.  He was a member of our family and we were proud to have him as a Shareholder.  There are so many things that we will miss about Bruce.  Most of all, we will miss his smile, his sharp wit, and his friendship.  We are so grateful that our paths crossed and we had the opportunity to know and love him.
