CHRISTINE CHANGHO BRUNEAU is an associate
with the law firm of Abbott, Simses & Kuchler. She received her Bachelor of Arts
from Kansas State University in 1994, majoring in Anthropology and American Ethnic
Studies. In 1998, she completed her Juris Doctor at Tulane University in New Orleans,
Louisiana, with a certificate in Environmental Law.
Ms. Bruneau is admitted to practice in all Louisiana State Courts; the U.S. District
Courts, Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana, and Southern District
of Texas; and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of
the Louisiana State Bar, New Orleans Bar Association, Bar Association for the Federal
Fifth Circuit, American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Louisiana Association
for Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the DuPont Minority Counsel Network. She is a past
member of the Louisiana Public Defender's Association. In 2001, Ms. Bruneau was made
a Fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation.
As a student, Ms. Bruneau was a member of the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic, representing
underprivileged citizens' groups with environmental issues across Louisiana. She
also interned with the American Civil Liberties Union in North Carolina and in Louisiana,
assisting with civil rights claims. Prior to her work with Abbott, Simses & Kuchler,
Ms. Bruneau served as a staff attorney with the Orleans Indigent Defender Program
and maintained a private criminal defense practice, representing the accused in all
offenses, at all stages of the legal process; and handling over 100 judge and jury
trials. In 1999, Ms. Bruneau prepared briefs and argued successfully before the Louisiana
Supreme Court, establishing that the juvenile courts had the discretion to determine
the term of commitment of juveniles adjudged guilty of armed robbery. State of
Louisiana in the Interest of A.M and T.K., 98-2752, 739 So.2d 188 (La. 7/2/99).
Today, Ms. Bruneau handles a demanding, complex civil litigation caseload throughout
Louisiana and Texas, specializing in the defense of Toxic Torts, Mass Tort Litigation,
Products Liability, and Premises Liability. Her cases have included industrial asbestos
and silica claims, chemical exposure, and maritime injuries. She also contributes
to the Firm as a member of the Diversity Committee and the Harassment and Discrimination
Committee.
Ms. Bruneau grew up in Leawood, Kansas, and resides in New Orleans with
her husband, Adrian. She is active
in a multitude of community and political organizations. An avid martial arts fan,
Ms. Bruneau is certified as a second-degree black belt and trainee instructor in
taekwondo. She also enjoys yoga, bicycling, costume construction, and country music.
